My new favorite gadget is the Cuisinart Coffee on Demand™ 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker The beauty of this coffee maker is that it doesn't require the usual coffee carafe and it's baby boomer friendly.
Aging - We all Do It
Let me explain. One of the lovely things about aging is that you learn new ways to handle common everyday tasks. In my eyes, the art of making coffee has changed over the years (literally).
My prior coffee maker had a reservoir in which I poured the water. The water level was displayed through a plastic see-through window, whereby I was able to determine how much water I had poured into the reservoir. The older I got, the more difficult it was for me to determine the level because everything seemed to blur.
It's All About the Balls
Some coffee maker manufacturers design coffee makers with the baby boomer's visual challenges in mind. They graciously place a brightly colored ball, usually red or a blue, in the water reservoir. This lovely little ball rises with the water level and I can easily tell how much water I've poured. Lacking the ball, I was unable to determine how much water I had poured and I was consistently making dreadful tasting coffee.
I was able to handle the lack of ball, and the dreadfully bland coffee taste, but when the coffee maker decided to start spitting coffee grinds into each cup of coffee, I had had enough. I ditched my old coffee maker and went on a search for a new one. My top most requirement was that my coffee maker had to have balls.
Imagine the sales person's surprise when I asked if they carried coffee makers with balls? Not too many coffee makers in my area have balls. I ended up buying a Cuisinart Coffee on Demand™ 12-Cup Programmable Coffee maker because it had a blue ball. Another attractive feature is that it doesn't require a carafe. As much as I hate to admit it, I have, on occasion, forgotten to place the coffee carafe beneath the coffee spout. The ensuing mess was not pretty.
A Great Cup of Coffee
The Cuisinart Coffee on Demand™ 12-Cup Programmable Coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee. I'm absolutely thrilled with my new coffee maker. For baby boomers with the same visual and memory challenges as I have, I 100% recommend this coffee maker.
Oh, and there is one more benefit. Since the coffee maker is quite different from our last one, my daughter enjoys pressing the coffee dispenser button to pour my coffee. The service is great. However, when the novelty starts to wear off and she begins to ask for a tip, it's time for me to get my own coffee.
That's my two cents and I'm sticking with it.
